Played in 45 states across the USA plus the District of Columbia and the U. S. Virgin Islands, Mega Millions offers players the chance to win huge jackpots that start at a minimum of $20 million (equal to approximately 131 million kroner).
The top prize grows every time there is a rollover and jackpots regularly climb past $500 million (approximately 3.2 billion kroner). The record jackpot to date was worth a staggering $1.5 billion (approximately 9.8 billion kroner) and was won by a single ticket holder in South Carolina in October 2018.

How to Play Mega Millions
Mega Millions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday night in Atlanta, Georgia. Players must match five numbers from 1 to 70 and then a Mega Ball numbered from 1 to 25 to win the jackpot. There are eight other prize tiers, offering rewards from $2 to $1 million, and the overall chances of winning any prize are 1 in 24.
A Megaplier option is also available in most states for an additional $1 fee. The Megaplier is a number from 2 to 5 which multiples non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times. The prize for matching five numbers without the Mega Ball for instance, is fixed at $1 million, but if the Megaplier number is 5 then the prize would be worth $5 million for a winning player who had taken advantage of this option.
Players in some states can also opt for another feature called Just the Jackpot. The standard cost for one set of numbers is $2, but anyone who plays Just the Jackpot will get two lines for $3. They are only eligible to win the top prize, though, so if they match anything other than the full line they will not receive a payout.
